Oxnard native Medaphour has been party to some of the most interesting hip-hop events of the last decade.  His cerebral flow has graced the likes of Lootpack’s Soundpieces, Madvillain’s Madvillainy, J Dilla’s The Shining, and Quasimoto’s The Unseen.  Throw in his excellent solo LP and you’ve got an MC that clearly knows his way around the merky underground of hip-hop.  His newest venture, Classic, fits well alongside his past endeavors–the production (via Madlib, Oh No and the Alchemist among others) is inventive boom-bap at its finest and the verses strike that fine balance between griminess and philosophical musing.

M.E.D said that with his new album he hoped to “do music that [he] loves but at the same time show growth.”  That line has probably been uttered by every 90’s nostalgic rapper with a Tribe cassete but when MED can back it up with tracks like “Classic” and “Where I’m From”, both of which are the equivalent of velour sweatpants for your eardrums, then it’s worth paying attention to.  Classic drops Nov. 1 (via Stonesthrow).
